Many an instructor has been in the back of our heads saying if in doubt go around. This normal procedure is really not considered as a part of our normal pre landing brief but we all know what to do in case of a go around.

Have you ever considered if you can safely execute a go around at the airfield you are planing to land at? Have you considered terrain and what impact it could have?

Although we are not exposed as often to the terrain that some of the back country flying in the states offers, the video below poses some good thoughts and learnings from what is a very lucky escape for a back country pilot.

Airfields like Apollo Bay and Mt Beauty are airfields that we often fly into. The surrounding terrain mixed with the wrong weather conditions and a 150 may pose some challenges.

Please take the time to watch and consider the plan for a safe go around.
